Position Summary:

Currently, we are hiring a highly motivated Investigator / Senior investigator to join our protein production group. The individual’s primary responsibility is to design and deliver custom protein reagents to fill the needs of HTS assays, protein structural determination, and biophysical studies in preclinical drug discovery. The candidate will purify and analyze high quality recombinant proteins from E.coli, Insect and Mammalian cells as well as initiate, coordinate, and supervise CRO efforts in protein expression and purification.. Additionally, the successful candidate will be working with a cross functional team to support core needs of various departments within the company. The position requires exceptional scientific, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., in Biochemistry, laboratory experience in recombinant protein expression, purification with at least 5 years of relevant research experience in academic / biotech settings
  • Experience with transferring/initiating, coordinating and supervising protein production work at CROs. This includes scientific oversight, building strong relationships with frequent communication, and optimizing workflows for protein quality and quantity.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and optimizing expression and purification of proteins from various sources (E. coli, Baculovirus and mammalian expression). Strong hands-on experience with AKTA/FPLC-based protein purification with various chromatography techniques, including IMAC, ion exchange, SEC, etc
  • Qualified support reagent production timeline goals of generating reagents for HTS, x-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, protein NMR, biophysics, and enzymology, and the ability to troubleshoot scientific problems  
  • Able to plan and execute multiple tasks concurrently and evaluate multiple scientific strategies in parallel where appropriate
  • Demonstrated strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change.
  • Scientific software proficiency and data analysis skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and experience leading junior colleagues
  • Track record of publications in peer reviewed journals

Responsibilities

  • CRO management to support recombinant protein needs of the company
  • In-house purification of fusion proteins using various chromatographic methods and establish purification methods for new protein modalities
  • Maintenance of mammalian and insect cell lines in suspension culture
  • Familiarity with biophysical techniques for characterization of proteins
  • Generate, analyze and document data independently and consistently
  • Collaborate with other internal functional teams in a multidisciplinary team environment and participate in project meetings
  • Stay informed about current literature and scientific progress
  • Receives high level instructions on all work, determines methods on new assignments, works closely with manager, may manage junior staff
